May’s Feature of the Month

Zia's Café
113 Allegheny Ave.
Towson, Md.
410-296-0799

Those of you who have been to Zia's Cafe know that you don't have to be in the city to get delicious veg-friendly food, and those of you who have yet to go are in for a treat. Zia's Cafe, located in Towson, has something for everyone. Their juice and smoothie selections are delight even to read. What could be more refreshing than fresh agave lemonade or pineapple, apple, pear ginger juice after a day of walking around Towson Circle? Their smoothie combinations are no less amazing. Try the chocolate almond smoothie with Ghiradelli chocolate, soy milk, almonds and silken tofu or the royal Hawaiian with pineapple, mango, soy milk, almonds, banana, dates and coconut oil. They also have a coffee bar with soy, almond, and hemp milk available.

So, you're sold on the drinks, but just wait until you try their soups, sandwiches and ready-to-eat items. You'll love the zucca empenadas and the vegan tofu wrap—and how can you go wrong with a place that has organic peanut butter and jelly on spelt bread? You can also create your own sandwich. Choose your bread and pick from toppings like marinated tofu, sprouts, avocado, hummus, and vegan mayo.

With such an appetizing menu you you might forget to check out the ready-to-eat items. The items are always changing, but you can expect things like spelt pizza, tofu scramble, stuffed avocados with mole sauce, vegan crab cakes, raw pizzas, and vegan desserts like raw live coconut cream pie, and chocolate walnut brownies.

Like the menu says, it's feel good food and drink. You'll eat well and the staff and atmosphere are great. With lots of natural light coming through the windows and the walls covered with art by local artists, a meal at Zia's couldn't be a more relaxing experience. Maybe you'll even see Chef Daniela Troia at the counter.

If you stop by before May 10th, you can make a reservation for a special raw food dinner, hosted by Chef Daniela Troia. The menu of mango pear salad, pineapple cucumber gazpacho, zucchini alfredo, California pizza, and marble cheesecake sounds magnificent!
